A STARTING POINT FOR YOUR PREPARATION
What is CELPIP, and how should you prepare?
CELPIP stands for Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program. It is a computer-delivered English test built around everyday communication. Preparation starts with understanding your test version, trying the tasks and finding the skills that need attention.

CELPIP-General and CELPIP-General LS
CELPIP-General assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. CELPIP-General LS assesses Listening and Speaking. Before choosing practice materials or booking a test, confirm which version the organization receiving your results requires.
Studio’s full mocks follow the four-skill CELPIP-General format. If you need General LS, focus on the Listening and Speaking resources and check the official format for your test.
What happens in the four CELPIP-General sections?
Listening
Follow spoken situations and answer questions about details, purpose and viewpoints. Practise noticing a changed plan or a speaker’s reason, then check the evidence behind your answer.
Explore Listening practice →Reading
Work with written information and different viewpoints. A useful habit is to identify the sentence or condition that supports an answer before looking for a familiar keyword.
Explore Reading practice →Writing
Write an email and respond to a survey question. Plan around the audience, purpose and every instruction, then leave time to improve the organization and clarity of your response.
Explore Writing practice →Speaking
Record responses to eight task types. Match your approach to the task: advice needs practical reasons, a scene needs clear description, and an opinion needs support.

- Try a small sample. Use the free four-skill sample to see how you respond. No sign-up is needed for the sample.
- Set a target for each skill. Read the CELPIP score and CLB guide, then check the score required by the organization receiving your results.
- Name the problem precisely. “I missed a changed detail” or “I did not answer one instruction” gives you a more useful practice goal than “my English is weak.”
- Practise one task and review it. The task guides explain what to focus on. Try the correction on a new topic to check that it transfers.
- Add time pressure. Follow the 30-day study plan as a starting structure, then use a timed mock test to check pacing and consistency.
How much preparation time do you need?
Your starting skills, target and available study time matter more than a fixed number of days. If task instructions are unfamiliar, begin with guided practice. If your responses are accurate but unfinished, practise pacing. If the same errors return in several timed attempts, spend more time reviewing and correcting them before another mock.
A sample or practice band helps you choose what to work on; it cannot guarantee an official score or a test-day outcome. Read how Studio’s feedback works to understand what the estimates mean.
