TRY A WORKED EXAMPLE
Speaking practice: give advice with a reason and a next step
Original Giving Advice scenario: A friend is starting a job with an early shift and keeps arriving late. Give practical advice that fits the situation.
Plan two useful suggestions. For each one, explain why it helps and what your friend can do next.
“I’d start by checking the bus schedule the evening before and choosing a bus that arrives a little early. That gives you a buffer if traffic is slow. You could also pack your lunch and set out your work clothes before bed, so you have fewer things to do in the morning.”
Review the response
The advice is specific to an early shift. Each suggestion includes a benefit or practical action, and the speaker addresses the friend directly. This short excerpt demonstrates organization; it is not a full-length answer or an official band score. When recording your own version, develop the ideas naturally and check whether the listener can follow them.
Use the free timed Speaking sample to practise with preparation and response timers, then replay your recording. Build a response for the actual prompt instead of memorizing this example.
Original CELPIP Studio teaching material. Independent preparation; not an official test question.
What you can practise
The published Speaking section contains 8 task types. Studio keeps those task purposes visible so you can train the skill behind the question instead of memorizing a template.

Read the concise task guide →Practise, review the evidence, then add time pressure
Speaking feedback considers Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability and Task Fulfillment. Usable speech can still be assessed when a response includes pauses or an interruption.
Use focused recordings to improve organization and delivery, then switch to a timed Speaking Skill Mock for a more test-like sequence.
How to use this page as a study sequence
- Read the guide for one task type and identify the decision the task is testing.
- Complete a focused original practice activity and review the evidence behind your result.
- Repeat the same skill with a new topic so the improvement transfers beyond one prompt.
- Use a timed Skill Mock to check whether the habit still holds under pressure.
Current Studio simulations use approximately 15 minutes for the Speaking section. Official timing ranges and rules can change, so check the official CELPIP test format before test day.
